EID TAKBIR

The two Eid holidays that Muslims celebrate are

  • Eid al-Fitr (1st of Shawwal) - marks the completion of fasting the blessed month of Ramadan, the fourth pillar of Islam.

  • Eid al-Adha (10th of Dhul Hijjah) - marks the completion of Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah), the fifth pillar of Islam. The three days following Eid al-Adha are known as the days of tashriq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul Hijjah).

Narrated 'Aishah (RA):
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "('Eid) al-Fitr is the day on which the people break the fast, and ('Eid) al-Adha is the day the people offer sacrifices." [Reported by at-Tirmidhi]

Reciting the Takbir is one of the greatest Sunnah (the traditions and practices of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) based on the saying of Allah (ﷻ):

He wants you to complete the prescribed period and to glorify Him for having guided you, so that you may be thankful.

[Quran 2:185]

Reciting the Takbir

Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar

Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest

Lā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar walillāhil hamd’

There is no God but Allah and Allah is Great, Allah is Great and all praise belongs only to Him.

(To be recited 3 times)

Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar

Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest

Allāhu Akbar kabirā, Walhamdulillāhi kathīrā,
Wasubhānallāhi bukratan wa aṣīlā

Allah is Great with all greatness, Praise be to Allah with the greatest praise
Praise be to Allah at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day

Lā ilāha illallāhu, walā na’budu illā iyyāhu mukhliṣīna lahuddīn,
Walau karihal kāfirūn

There is no God but Allah and we do not worship except Him, by purifying the religion of Islam even though the Kafir hated it

Lā ilāha illallāhu wahdah, ṣadaqa wa’dah, wanaṣara ‘abdah

There is no God but Allah, with his Oneness, He is the one who keeps his promises, the One who helps His servants

wa a’azza jundahu, wahazam-al ahzāba wahdah

and glorified His armies and tormented the enemy with His Oneness

Lā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu Akbar

There is no God but Allah and Allah is Great
We do not worship anyone but Him.

Allāhu Akbar walillāhil hamd

Allah is Great and all praise only belongs to Him.
